Voting on releases

Introduction

The Artifact Distribution Platform (ADP) provides projects with tools for simplifying and, in some cases, automating the voting process for new releases.

Voting is done in batches, where a single batch can contain one or more artifacts to vote on. The voting process of each batch can be tailored to the specific needs and circumstances of the release in question:

  • batches can partially pass once enough votes for a subcomponent are present.
  • batches can have a set timeout after which it can pass if sufficient votes are recorded.
  • new batches can be automated, and voting can be done in bulk on one or more artifacts.
  • if emergency security releases need to be promoted quickly, ADP can handle notifying interested parties.

At present, the use of this tool is NOT mandated, and projects MAY release new artifacts without using the voting tool. If the process should at some point become mandatory, projects will be notified well in advance.
